Glucagon is actually a preproprotein that is cleaved into four distinct mature peptides. One of these, glucagon, is a pancreatic hormone that counteracts the glucose-lowering action of insulin by stimulating glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. Glucagon is a ligand for a specific G-protein linked receptor whose signalling pathway controls cell proliferation. Two of the other peptides are secreted from gut endocrine cells and promote nutrient absorption through distinct mechanisms. Finally, the fourth peptide is similar to glicentin, an active enteroglucagon.

Applications
Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Indirect Flow Cytometry, Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilutions
ELISA: 1:1000 Western Blot: 1:50-1:100 Indirect Flow Cytometry: 1:10-1:50 Immunofluorescence: 1:10-1:50 Immunohistochemistry (FFPE): 1:50-1:100 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide corresponding to a portion of amino acids within aa126-156 at the C-terminal region of human Glucagon, conjugated to KLH (P01275).

Supplied as a liquid in PBS, 0.09% sodium azide.
Purity
Purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation.
Specificity
Recognizes human Glucagon.
