Green fluorescent protein (GFP) is a 29kD fluorescent protein isolated from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria. Upon exposure to blue light (488nm), GFP strongly fluoresces (Emission max: 507nm). GFP can be fused to proteins without significantly interfering with their assembly and function, making GFP a powerful tool for monitoring gene expression and protein localization in living cells

Applications
Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunocytochemistry. Other applications have not been tested.
Recommended Dilution
Western Blot: 0.5-2ug/ml detects Green Fluorescent Protein from 50ug of rat brain lysate containing 25ng of purified Green Fluorescent Protein. Also detected a GFP-fusion protein from a transfected E. coli cell lysate. Rat brain lysate was resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to nitrocellulose and probed with G8965-06 (1ug/ml). Proteins were visualized using a rabbit anti-chicken secondary antibody conjugated to HRP and a chemiluminescence detection system. Immunocytochemistry: Reported to show positive immunostaining in cells transfected with an expression vector encoding Green Fluorescent Protein. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Recommended Secondary Antibodies
I1906 IgY, Chicken Pab Rb x Ch I1906-10 IgY, Chicken (HRP) Rb x Ch I1906-12 IgY, Chicken (FITC) Rb x Ch I1906-14 IgY, Chicken (AP) Rb x Ch
Positive Control
rat brain lysate, cells expressing Green Fluorescent Protein
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
His-tagged green fluorescent protein of Aequorea victoria.
Form
Supplied as a liquid in 100mM Tris-glycine, pH 7.4, 150mM sodium chloride, 0.05% sodium azide, 30% glycerol.
Purity
Purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and PEG.
Specificity
Recognizes Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), Mr 30kD, and GFP-fusion proteins. Species Crossreactivity: Vertebrates
