The Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria is used as a fluorescent indicator for monitoring gene expression in a variety of cellular systems, including living organisms and fixed tissues. Unlike other bioluminescent reporters, GFP fluoresces in the absence of substrates, cofactors or other intrinsic or extrinsic proteins. Purified GFP is a 27kD monomer consisting of 246 amino acids. It emits green light (emission maximum at 509nm) when excited with blue or UV light.

Recommended DilutionELISA (sandwich or capture): 1:10,000-1:50,000
Western Blot: 1:1000-1:5000

Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20°C. Stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

SpecificityRecognizes wild type and recombinant Green Fluorescent Protein. Does not recognize enhanced forms of GFP. Expected to detect GFP containing inserts by Immuno uorescence Microscopy on prokaryotic (E. coli) and eukaryotic (CHO cells) expression systems. Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-goat serum, anti-peroxidase, and puri ed and partially puri ed GFP (Aequorea victoria) serum.
