| H1t is a 207aa protein belonging to the histone H1/H5 family. This basic nuclear protein interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and is necessary for the condensation of nucleosome chains into higher order structures. H1t in pachytene spermatocytes may facilitate meiotic recombination. The protein is found only in pachytene spermatocytes and early haploid spermatids.
