| Heparan-sulfate 6-O-sulfotransferase 1 (HS6ST1) is one of three enzymes that catalyze sulfation at the 6-O position of N-acetylglucosamine residues in heparan sulfate. Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) interact with a variety of proteins, such as growth factors, protease inhibitors, cytokines, lipoprotein lipase and viral envelope proteins. HSPGs play roles in a wide variety of processes including cell growth, differentiation, and motility, blood coagulation, lipid metabolism, and viral infection.
