| ITGA2 encodes the integrin alpha chain. Integrins are heterodimers of two transmembrane chains, a and b and are involved in cell adhesion and in cell-surface mediated signalling. ITGA2 associates with integrin beta-1. Integrin alpha-2beta-1 is a receptor for laminin, collagen, collagen C-propeptides, fibronectin and E-cadherin. It is localized to Human chromosome 5q23-q31.
