Integrins are heterodimeric proteins made up of alpha and beta subunits. At least 18 alpha and 8 beta subunits have been described in mammals. Integrin family members are membrane receptors involved in cell adhesion and recognition in a variety of processes including embryogenesis, hemostasis, tissue repair, immune response and metastatic diffusion of tumor cells. This gene encodes a beta subunit. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants which encode different protein isoforms have been found for this gene.

Applications
Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry, Immunocytochemistry, Immunoprecipitatin, and Western Blot. Also suitable for inhibition of Jurkat binding to collagen and fibrinogen. Other applications have not been tested.
Recommended Dilution
Flow Cytometry: 1:200-1:500 using live cells and goat anti-mouse secondary antibody. Immunocytochemistry: can be used with unfixed cells in culture. Oftentimes, fixing with 2-3% PFA for 5 minutes after primary antibody incubation will assist in obtaining strong signals since it fixes the primary antibodies to the tissues. Immunoprecipitation: 1:250-1:500. Western Blot: 1:1000-1:2000. (reducing, 115kD; non-reducing, 130kD) Inhibition of Jurkat binding to collagen and fibronectin: 1:100. Note: epitope is trypsin sensitive; cells should be prepared with PBS + EDTA (2mM) or other non-enzymatic methods. Blocking will not occur with trypsinized cells Note: Binding of antibody may be inhibited by magnesium ion concentrations greater than 0.5mM. Optimal dilution to be determined by the researcher.
Control
Human lung, liver, and skeletal muscle tissues
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
Purified beta 1 integrin and Jurkat cells
Form
Supplied as a liquid.
