| IL-1alpha is a non-secreted proinflammatory cytokine produced in a variety of cells including monocytes, tissue macrophages, keratinocytes and other epithelial cells. Both IL-1alpha and IL-1beta binds to the same receptor and has similar if not identical biological properties. These cytokines have a broad range of activities including, stimulation of thymocyte proliferation, by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, mitogenic FGF-like activity and the ability to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells. However, whereas IL-1beta is a secreted cytokine, IL-1alpha is predominantly a cell-associated cytokine. |

| Catalog # | I7663-01B |
| Applications | Suitable for use in Neutralization, ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. |
| Recommended Dilution | Neutralization:To yield one-half maximal inhibition [ND50] of the biological activity of rat IL-1 alpha (50pg/ml), a concentration of 0.011–0.017u/ml of this antibody is required. |
| ELISA | To detect rIL-1 alpha by direct ELISA (using 100ul/well antibody solution) a concentration of at least 0.5ug/ml of this antibody is required. This antigen af nity puri ed antibody, in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents, allows the detection of 0.2–0.4ng/well of recombinant rat IL-1 alpha. |
| Western Blot | To detect rat IL-1 alpha by Western Blot analysis this antibody can be used at a concentration of 0.1–0.2ug/ml. Used in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents the detection limit for recombinant rIL-1 alpha is 1.5–3.0ng/lane, under either reducing or non-reducing conditions. |
| Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. |
| Storage and Stability | Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Reconstitute to nominal volume by adding sterile 40-50% glycerol and store at -20°C. May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. |
