IL-6 is a pluripotent 20-22kD cytokine which plays a role in the pathophysiology of severe infection and regulates the immune response, acute phase reaction and haematopoiesis. IL-6 plays a critical role in B-cell differentiation to plasma cells and is a potent growth factor for plasmacytoma and myeloma. Continuous IL-6 gene expression makes an essential contribution to a multistep oncogenesis of plasma cell neoplasia. IL-6 is a very useful culture supplement for the generation of a high number of antibody-producing hybridomas.

Applications	Suitable for use in Functional Studies, ELISA, Neutralization, Immunoprecipitation and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution	ELISA: Use as a coating antibody.
	Immunohistochemistry: Frozen and Paraffin
	Neutralization: Dilutions have to be made according to the amount of IL-6 to be inactivated. Before use, I8428-16F must be filter sterilized and depending on the concentration to be used dialyzed against culture medium to remove the sodium azide added.
	Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability	May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Specificity	Recognizes mouse interleukin 6 (IL-6). Does not react with LPS (the component of the bacterial cell wall which is considered responsible for the toxicity of gram-negative bacteria) or TNF-alpha. Does not react with human or rat IL-6. Inhibits IL-6 induced proliferation of the B9 assay.
