| Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a multifunctional cytokine whose net principle action is to diminish inflammatory responses. Interleukin (IL)-13 is an important cytokine secreted from type 2 helper T lymphocytes. It is essential for modulating IgE synthesis by human B cells. Previous studies showed that polymorphisms in the IL-13 gene were associated with serum total IgE or allergic asthma. Interleukin (IL)-13 is a pleiotropic cytokine, which shares many biological functions with IL-4. The receptor subunits of IL-13 consist of IL-4Ralpha, IL-13Ralpha1 and IL-13Ralpha2. |

| Catalog # | I8435-10B |
| Description | Recombinant Human IL-13 produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 114 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 12.5kD. Recombinant IL-13 is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. |
| Amino Acid Sequence | The sequence of the first five N-terminal amino acids was determined and found to be Ser-Pro-Gly-Pro-Val. |
| Dimers and Aggregates | Less than 1% as determined by silver-stained SDS-PAGE gel analysis. |
| Biological Activity | Human IL-13 is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 was determined by the dose dependent prolifiration of TF-1 cells and was found to be < 1ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of >1 x 106. |
| Endotoxin | 0.1ng/ug (IEU/ug) of recombinant Human IL-13. |
| Protein Content | Protein quantitation was carried out by two independent methods: |
| 1. UV spectroscopy at 280 nm using the absorbency value of 0.57 as the extinction coefficient for a 0.1% (1mg/ml) solution. This value is calculated by the PC GENE computer analysis program of protein sequences (IntelliGenetics). |
| 2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a calibrated solution of IL-13 as a Reference Standard. |
| Solubility | It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Human IL-13 in sterile 18M -cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions. |
| Stability | Lyophilized Recombinant Human Interleukin-13 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -180C. Upon reconstitution Human Interleukin-13 should be stored at 40C between 2-7 days and for future use below -180C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please avoid freeze-thaw cycles. |
