| JARID1A is a histone demethylase that specifically demethylates 'Lys-4' of histone H3, thus having a major role in histone code. Regulatory protein JARID1A belongs to the JARID1 histone demethylase family and may stimulate transcription mediated by nuclear receptors. It is involved in transcriptional regulation of Hox proteins during cell differentiation, and may also participate in transcriptional repression of cytokines such as CXCL12. JARID1A interacts with the viral protein-binding domain of RB1 which regulates cell proliferation and with rhombotin-2 which functions distinctly in erythropoiesis and in T-cell leukemogenesis.
