| Kanamycin sulfate is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of drugs called aminoglycosides. It binds to ribosomal components and inhibits protein synthesis. Kanamycin sulfate appears to prevent bacteria from making their cell walls, thus the cells die. It is used to treat many sensitive gram-negative, some gram-positive bacteria and and mycoplasmas in cell culture. Kanamycin is inactivated by an aminoglycoside phospho transferase (MW 25,000) in the periplasmic space. | | | Catalog # | K0010 | | Application | Suitable for use as a selectable marker for cosmid vectors used in transfection of mammalian cells. | | Activity on Dry Basis | 750ug/mg | | Appearance | White to light tan crystalline powder | | Identity | To pass USP Test | | Kanamycin B Content | 4% | | Specific Rotation | +112° to +123° | | Loss on Drying | 1.5% | | pH | 6.5-8.5 | | Endotoxin | 2Eu/mg | | Working Concentration | Cell/Tissue Culture: ~30ug/ml | | Stringent Plasmids: 10ug/ml | | Relaxed Plasmids: 50ug/ml | | CAS Number | 25389-94-0 | | Molecular Formula | C18H36N4O11•H2SO4 | | Molecular Weight | 582.58 | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. | | Alternate names | Streptomyces kanamyceticus; Kanamycin A; Kanamycin monosulfate |
