Twenty human keratins are resolved with two-dimensional gel electrophoresis into acidic (pI <5.7) and basic (pI >6.0) subfamilies. The acidic keratins have molecular weights of 56.5, 55, 51, 50, 50', 48, 46, 45, and 40kD. The basic keratins have molecular weights of 65-67, 64, 59, 58, 56 and 52kD. Members of acidic and basic subfamilies are found together in pairs. The composition of keratin pairs varies with cell type, differentiation status and environment. Many studies have shown the usefulness of keratins as markers in cancer research and tumor diagnosis.

ApplicationsSuitable for use in Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended DilutionsImmunohistochemistry (Formalin/paraffin): 1:50 for 30min at RT. Requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM citrate buffer, pH 6.0, for 10-20 mins. followed by cooling at RT for 20 mins.
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
