KLF4 is a protein belonging to the krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family, consisting of three C2H2-type zinc fingers. It functions as a cell cycle checkpoint protein, induces squamous epithelial dysplasia and maintains the integrity of the G2/M checkpoint following DNA damage. KLF4 prevents centrosome amplification following gamma radiation-induced DNA damage and plays a role in the differentiation of epithelial cells and in the development of the skeleton and kidney. Its inactivation leads to bladder carcinogenesis and gastric carcinogenesis.
