Polyclonal Sheep Affinity Purified E IH
Lactoferrin (LF), also known as Lactotransferrin (LTF), is a 78.1kD secreted protein belonging to the transferrin family of proteins. Lactoferrin is a multifunctional protein with microbial activity. It inhibits the ability of bacteria and viruses to attach to cell membranes, additionally it acts as an antifungal agent. Research has indicated that lactoferrin may also have a role in inhibiting the formation of protease resistant prion proteins. Lacoferrin occurs in milk and mucosal secretions including tears and saliva. It has also been detected in a range of cell types including brush border cells, PMN, monocytes, macrophages and activated lymphocytes. Highest concentrations are found in human colostrum.
Catalog #L1021-75J
ApplicationsSuitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended DilutionsELISA: 1:200-1:2000
Immunohistochemistry (Frozen, paraffin): Requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections. Sodium citrate buffer, pH 6, is recommended for this purpose. Reported to work well in formalin fixed paraffin embedded sections of human and canine mammary glands but does not stain canine neutrophils.
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
