| Exocrine organs produce various secretions, each with its characteristic function. Proteins | | | found in secretions may be divided into two groups: those specific for the particular secretion, | | | and plasma proteins independent of the type of exocrine cells. Lactoferrin belongs to the first | | | group. It is an iron containing protein with a molecular weight of 75000 and it is antigenically | | | different from transferrin. Lactoferrin has a slight anti-microbial action. Originally identified in | | | milk, its presence has also been demonstrated in other secretions as saliva, semen and tears. | | | Catalog # | L1021-82C | | Applications | Suitable for use in Immunoelectrophoresis, Double Radial Immunodiffusion and ELISA. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Fluorescein/IgG protein molar ratio (F/P) | ~1.6 | | Storage and Stability | Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. FITC conjugates are sensitive to light. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Polyclonal | | Isotype | IgG | | Host | Goat | | Source | Human | | Concentration | Not determined | | Form | Supplied as a lyophilized powder from PBS, pH7.2. Preservative free. Labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). Reconstitute with 1ml sterile ddH2O. Dilute further in PBS, pH 7.2. | | Purity | Purified by DEAE chromatography. | | Immunogen | Lactoferrin isolated from human milk. | | Specificity | Recognizes human lactoferrin. In immunoelectrophoresis against human milk a single precipitin line is obtained. Does not react with any other protein component of human serum or plasma. | | Species Crossreactivity | Rhesus monkey | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
