| Exocrine organs produce various secretions, each with its characteristic function. Proteins found in secretions may be divided into two groups: those specific for the particular secretion, and plasma proteins independent of the type of exocrine cells. Lactoferrin belongs to the first group. It is an iron containing protein with a molecular weight of 75000 and it is antigenically different from transferrin. Lactoferrin has a slight antimicrobal action. Originally identified in milk, its presence has also been demonstrated in other secretions as saliva, semen and tears. | | | Catalog # | L1021-82E | | Applications | Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunoelectrophoresis, Single and Double Radial Immunodiffusion (Mancini, Ouchterlony). Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | Immunoelectrophoresis: 120ul against 2ul monkey serum | | Single Radial Immunodiffusion: 1% in gel | | Double Radial Immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony): Use a rosette arrangement with 10ul in a 3mm diameter center well and 10ul in 3 mm diameter peripheral wells. | | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Storage and Stability | Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Polyclonal | | Isotype | IgG | | Host | Goat | | Source | Monkey | | Concentration | Not determined | | Form | Supplied as a lyophilized powder. No preservatives added. Reconstitute in 1ml sterile ddH2O. Dilute further in PBS, pH 7.2. | | Purity | Serum | | Immunogen | Lactoferrin isolated from rhesus monkey milk. | | Specificity | Recognizes monkey Lactoferrin. In immunoelectrophoresis against monkey milk a single precipitin line is obtained.
