| Major vault protein (MVP) is the main constituent of vaults which are huge intracellular ribonucleoprotein particles, with their structure resembling cathedral roof vaults. Lung resistance-related protein (LRP) was identified as the major MVP. The approximately 55aa residue MVP domain has a unique, novel fold that consists of a three-stranded antiparallel beta-sheet. It functions as a transport associated protein that can be associated with multidrug resistance by reducing cellular accumulation of chemotherapeutic agents. Expression of MVP:LRP has been documented in various tumors adult T-cell leukemia, osteosarcoma, Wilms' tumor, acute leukemia, prostate carcinoma, ovarian carcinoma, acute myeloid leukemia, and non-small-cell lung cancer where it acts as an excellent predictor and marker of multiple drug resistance (MDR). This gene produces two transcripts by using two alternative exon 2 sequences. It is highly expressed in epithelial cells with secretory and excretory functions, as well as in cells chronically exposed to xenobiotics, such as bronchial cells and cells lining the intestine and overexpressed in many multidrug-resistant cancer cells. | | | Catalog # | L4500-03A | | Applications | Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry.
