| Nucleosome composition varies considerably from one chromosomal domain to the next, with a major variable being histone acetylation. The level of histone acetylation also correlates directly with the transcriptional activity of a particular domain. Histone acetylation destabilizes the nucleosome structure and renders the DNA more accessible to transcription factors. This destabilization is the result of the reduction in the capacity of the acetylated N-terminal tails to stabilize the path of DNA in the nucleosome through charge neutralization. Recent studies of the several enzymes involved in acetylation and deacetylation of histone residues have revealed a possible relationship between gene transcriptional activation, histone acetylation and tumor suppressor function. | | | Catalog # | L9058-06 | | Applications | Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunohistochemistry and Western Blot.
