Specifications

MTAP (Methylthioadenosine phosphorylase) is important in polyamine metabolism and for the salvage of both adenine and methionine. It is involved in the metabolism of MeSAdo (methylthioadenosine), a by-product of the synthesis of the polyamines spermidine and spermine. MTAP is deficient in many cancers because the MTAP gene is co-deleted with the tumor suppressor p16.
