| Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 (92-kD Type IV collagenase) belongs to the MMP family of zinc-dependent endopeptidases that has been associated with tumor cell invasion and metastasis and tumor-induced angiogenesis. As a secreted MMP, pro-MMP-9 is released into the extracellular environment by both tumor and stroma cells, where it fulfills its proteolytic functions degrading both extracellular matrix (ECM) and non-ECM proteins (1). MMP-9 is also reported to have proteolytic activity against connective tissue proteins, and has been suggested to be important in the connective tissue remodeling processes associated with atherogenesis and plaque rupture (2). MMP-9 is predominantly expressed in neutrophils, macrophages, and mast cells and has been found to be involved in a variety of autoimmune diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's syndrome, systemic sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, polymyositis and atherosclerosis. It plays either a primary or secondary role in each one of those autoimmune diseases by its up or down-regulation, making it a target for therapy of autoimmune diseases (3, 4). | | | Catalog # | M2425-09A | | Applications | Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry.
