| Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) belong to the subfamily of metzincin peptidases. These proteins have the ability to cleave and remodel the extracellular matrix, and play a critical role in modifying cell behavior during periods of wound repair, embryonic development, and also cancer progression. Substrates of MMPs include cell adhesion molecules, growth factors, and cytokines and proteases. Epilysin (MMP-28) is expressed primarily in migrating and stationary keratinocytes in the skin during wound healing, but also expressed in testis germ cells and cancer cells. Located solely on chromosome 17, Epilysin has been studied to have a significant role on cells undergoing epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), which is a hallmark of embryonic and carcinoma development and results in loss of cell-to-cell E-cadherin adhesion, along with increased expression of TGF-beta. | | | Catalog # | M2438-18B | | Applications | Suitable for use in Western Blot.
