| Myelin basic protein (MBP) is a single-chain, flexible polypeptide of about 18.5kD existing in its natural environment as an extrinsic and loosely bound component of the cytoplasmic portion of the myelin membrane sandwich. Ultrastructural immunocytochemistry with anti-myelin basic protein has shown that MBP is localized in the compact myelin sheath. MBP has not been demonstrated in rough endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes or any other cytoplasmic organelles. MBP serves as a marker for oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells. MBP is also a marker for malignant schwannomas and appears to play a significant role in the etiology of multiple sclerosis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis. | | | Catalog # | M9758-01A | | Applications | Suitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry (frozen). Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | Immunohistochemistry (frozen): 1:10 | | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Hybridoma | NSO myeloma cells with spleen cells from NIH mice. | | Storage and Stability | May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Monoclonal | | Isotype | IgG2a | | Clone No | 9L505 | | Host | Mouse | | Source | Bovine | | Concentration | Not determined | | Form | Supplied as a liquid in 0.2M Tris-HCl, pH 7.4, 5-10% FCS, 0.09% sodium azide. | | Purity | Supernatant | | Immunogen | Bovine Myelin Basic Protein (MBP). | | Specificity | Recognizes Myelin Basic Protein. The epitope retains its structure in Thermolysin digests and seems to be located in the 129-138 region of the human MBP molecule. Species Crossreactivity: human, bovine, rat. Weak cross reactivity with rabbit. Does not cross react with guinea pig. | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
