| Myelin basic protein (MBP) is an intracellular protein with highly flexible structure found in myelin of central and peripheral nervous system (CNS, PNS). The classic group of MBP isoforms (isoforms 4-14) with PLP is the major protein components of the myelin membrane in CNS and functions in its formation and stabilization. The non-classic group of MBP isoforms (isoforms 1-3/Golli-MBPs) has been implicated in early developing brain long before myelination, possible components of transcriptional complexes, and possible role in T-cells and neural cells signaling pathways. MBP is often post-translationally modified in various ways, which includes citrullination, N-terminal acylation, deamidation, and phosphorylation (1). Surface charge reduction of citrullinated and/or methylated MBP has been linked in weakening the myelin membrane, which can lead to demyelinating diseases such as chronical multiple sclerosis (MS) (2). | | | Catalog # | M9758-01N | | Applications | Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry, Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation and Immunocytochemistry.
