| Myostatin (GDF-8) is expressed uniquely in human skeletal muscle as a 12kD mature glycoprotein consisting of 113 amino acid residues and secreted into plasma. Myostatin is a member of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily of secreted growth and differentiation factors that is essential for proper regulation of skeletal muscle mass. Studies have shown that myostatin could play an important role in cardiac development and physiology. | | | Catalog # | M9875-01B | | Mature Myostatin is obtained by proteolytic processing of a biologically-inactive precursor protein, which contains an N-terminal propeptide of 243 amino acid residues. Myostatin Propeptide exhibits high binding affinity for myostatin and has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of Myostatin. Over-expression of myostatin propeptide in mice resulted in large increases (up to 200%) in skeletal muscle mass, similar to those observed in Myostatin knockout mice. Recombinant Human Myostatin Propeptide is a 27.8kD protein consisting of 244 amino acid residues. | | Purity | 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses. | | Endotoxin | 0.1ng per ug (1EU/ug). | | Form | Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Reconstitution: Add 0.2ml of 0.1M acetate buffer, pH 4. Allow the lyophilized pellet to dissolve completely. Lyophilized myostatin is poorly soluble at neutral pH. | | AA Sequence | MNENSEQKEN VEKEGLCNAC TWRQNTKSSR IEAIKIQILS KLRLETAPNI SKDVIRQLLP KAPPLRELID QYDVQRDDSS DGSLEDDDYH ATTETIITMP TESDFLMQVD GKPKCCFFKF SSKIQYNKVV KAQLWIYLRP VETPTTVFVQ ILRLIKPMKD GTRYTGIRSL KLDMNPGTGI WQSIDVKTVL QNWLKQPESN LGIEIKALDE NGHDLAVTFP GPGEDGLNPF LEVKVTDTPK RSRR | | Stability | The lyophilized protein is stable for a few weeks at room temperature, but best stored at -20°C.
