NALP9 is a 991aa containing cytoplasmic protein belonging to the NLRP family with aDPIN domain, three LRR (leucine-rich) repeats and a NACHT domain. Also called NOD6, NALP9 is a novel intracellular protein involved in inflammation and apoptosis. NALP9 may play a regulatory role in the innate immune system as similar family members belong to the signal-induced multiprotein complex, the inflammasome, which activates the pro-inflammatory caspases, Caspase-1 and Caspase-5.
