NUP153, also known as Nuclear pore complex protein Nup153, is a 1475aa containing nuclear pore complex protein located in the terminal ring structure of the nucleoplasmic cage. This structural protein contains four RanBP2-type zinc fingers. NUP153 may be considered as a possible DNA-binding subunit of the nuclear pore complex (NPC). NUP153, a transport protein, mediates the regulated movement of macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm and is a mobile nucleoporin implicated in RNA export. It is required for nuclear pore complex anchoring within the nuclear envelop and in mediating specific nuclear import events. Ubiquitous expression is seen in most tissues.
