| NADPH Oxidase (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-oxidase) complex is composed of p47 phox (cytosolic component bound to PKC that localizes to p22), p67 phox (cytosolic component that interacts with activated Rac to dock on the glycoprotein p91 subunit (gp91) of membrane bound cytochrome b), Rac2 (Rho family of GTPases), b558 (a cytochrome b transmembrane protein dimer made up of gp91 phox/p22 phox). The activated complex is responsible for the respiratory burst in neutrophils by the multiple phosphorylations of p47 phox by PKC. Neutrophil cytosolic factor 1 (NCF1) is a 47kD cytosolic subunit of the multi-protein complex known as NADPH oxidase. Expression of NCF1 is restricted to granulocytes, monocytes and B lymphocytes.
