| PAK5, a PAK (STE20) type protein kinase, contains a N-terminal Cdc42/Rac interactive binding (CRIB) motif and a C-terminal kinase domain. The protein is a target of the Rho GTPases Cdc42 and Rac; however, binding of Cdc42 is not required for kinase activity. PAK5 has been shown to be highly expressed in mammalian brain and pancreas. Very little or no PAK5 has been detected in most other tissues. ESTs have been isolated from several tissue libraries, including normal brain and embryo and cancerous colon and germ cell. Caution: The PAK5 gene also is known as P21-Activated Kinase 7 (PAK7).
