Penicillin is a group of Beta-lactam antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible, usually Gram-positive, organisms. b-lactam antibiotics work by inhibiting the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links in the bacterial cell wall, which results in cytolysis.

Storage and Stability	May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Appears insensitive to structure of the side chain of the penicilloyl group. Reacts with the following derivatives and conjugates: benzylpenicillin, Ampicillin, Amoxicillin and 6-Aminopenicillanic acid.
