| The Presenilin-2 gene was recently discovered on chromosome 1 and is responsible for an early onset form of autosomal dominant Alzheimer’s disease. The amino acid sequence is approximately 67% identical with that of the presenilin-1 protein. It also is a membrane protein that has regions where mutations have been identified in family members with Alzheimer’s disease. The sequence corresponds to the extracellular portion of this protein. The gene sequence of presenilin 2 does not match any known human gene sequences, except for that of presenilin 1, and the identity and function of both these proteins remain speculative. | | | Catalog # | P6300-40 | | Immunohistochemistry | >1:1,000 on frozen tissue. ELISA: > 1:20,000. | | Clone Type | Polyclonal | | Isotype | IgG | | Host | Goat | | Source | Human | | Concentration | Not determined | | Form | Liquid containing 0.01% thimerosal. | | Purity | Serum. | | Immunogen | Synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 31–47 of the N-terminus of the human Alzheimer’s disease presenilin-2 protein (PS-2). Available as blocking peptide as Catalog Number AG216. | | Specificity | Recognizes the N-terminal region of the Presenilin-2 protein. Shown to be immunoreactive to the presenilin-2 immunizing peptide by ELISA, but does not show reactivity with the immunizing peptide used for the presenilin-1 antibody. Labels neurons in both Alzheimer’s disease and normal control brains using frozen-fixed sections. Species Reactivity: Human. | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
