| Protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5) is a 27kD ubiquitin-protein hydrolase, expressed in the cytoplasm of neurons and cells of the diffuse neuroendocrine system and related tumors. PGP 9.5 hydrolyzes a peptide bond at the C-terminal glycine of the proteolysis tagging protein ubiquitin, thereby generating/recycling ubiquitin monomers, essential in the ubiquitin-proteasome cytoplasmic protein degradation system.
