Ubiquitin-like protein which binds to a wide range of target proteins. Does not seem to be involved in protein degradation and may function as an antagonist of ubiquitin in the degradation process. Plays a role in a number of cellular processes such as nuclear transport, DNA replication and repair, mitosis and signal transduction. Involved in targeting RANGAP1 to the nuclear pore complex protein RANBP2. SUBUNIT: Covalently attached to a number of proteins such as PML, RANGAP1, HIPK2, SP100, p53, p73alpha, MDM2, JUN and DNMT3B. Also interacts with HIF1A, HIPK2, HIPK3, CHD3, PIAS1, EXOSC9, TDG, RAD51 and RAD52.

Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.

Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add sterile glycerol (40-50%), aliquot and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Immunogen
A synthetic peptide (AKPST EDLGDKKEGE Y) as part of human SUMO-1 peptide (aa: 6-21) conjugated to diphtheria toxoid. This antigen shares 100% identity with SUMO-1 of rat.
Form
Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Reconstitute in 100ul of sterile water. Centrifuge to remove any insoluble material.
Specificity
This antiserum recognizes human SUMO-1 and not ubiquitin. Species Crossreactivity: This antiserum is known to cross react with rat and human SUMO-1.
