SUMO-1 is an 11kD protein which structurally related to ubiquitin, and is added to proteins as a form of post-translational modification known as sumoylation. Sumoylation can be cell cycle regulated, stimulated upon stress or induced by DNA damage, and binding elicits individual effects for each protein. Effects include changes to protein stability, nuclear-cytosolic transport, and transcriptional regulation (mostly transcriptional repression).

Alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized.
Applications
Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution
Western Blot: 0.5-1ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
14aa peptide sequence near the amino terminus of human SUMO-1.
Form
Supplied as a liquid in PBS, 0.02% sodium azide.
Purity
Purified by immunoaffinity chromatography.
Specificity
Recognizes an epitope within the N-terminal region of human small ubiquitin-related modifier-1. Species Crossreactivity: rat, mouse.
