5-HT1B (5-HT1D beta), a Serotonin receptor, inhibits neurotransmitter release from neuronal terminals. Knockout mutant mice lacking this receptor exhibit decreased anxiety, increased aggression, and augmented alcohol and cocaine consumption compared to controls. 5-HT1B receptors have been found to control areas of the human brain involved in migraine pain, bipolar disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder. The 5-HT1B receptor has been reported to be expressed in a variety of neurons predominantly in the central nervous system. It has been suggested that human 5-HT1B receptors are located somatodendritically on GABAergic and peptidergic caudate-putamen neurons which project to the substantia nigra and globus pallidus, where these receptors are presynaptic. 5-HT1B expression has also been seen in heart, blood vessels and eye.

Recommended Dilution	Immunohistochemistry: Formalin-fixed, paraffin

Storage and Stability	May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add sterile 40-50% glycerol, aliquot and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
