Somatostatin was originally isolated from the hypothalamus and characterized by its ability to inhibit release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. It exists in two forms, somatostatin-14, composed of 14 amino acids and somatostatin-28, a prohormone composed of 28 residues. The Somatostatin antibody will label D cells of the endocrine mammalian pancreas and also cells of the hypothalamic parvicellular region. It may prove useful for the identification of tumors and hyperplasias of the pancreatic islets.

Recommended Dilutions	Immunohistochemistry: 1:50-1:200
	Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability	May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
