| Transferrin is a single polypeptide chain glycoprotein. It is a member of the iron binding family of proteins. It has a molecular weight of 79.5kD and a serum concentration range of 1800-2700mg/L. It is synthesized in the liver and consists of two domains each having a high affinity reversible binding site for Fe3+. The iron is transported in blood and interstitial fluids to sites of use and disposal. Iron/transferrin is essential in hemoglobin synthesis and for certain types of cell division. Serum concentration rises in iron deficiency and pregnancy and falls in iron overload, infection and inflammatory conditions. | | | Catalog # | T8199-08 | | Applications | Suitable for use in ELISA, IEP, 2D-IEP, Ouchterlony. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | EIA: 1:50,000-1:100,000 (2ug/ml transferrin and TMB as a substrate). | | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Storage and Stability | May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add sterile glycerol (40-50%), aliquot and store at -20°C or colder. Aliquots are stable for at least 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Polyclonal | | Host | Sheep | | Source | Human | | Concentration | ~5mg/ml | | Form | Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.2, 0.05% Proclin, 300, 0.002% methylisothiazolone, 0.002% bromonitrodioxane. Labeled with HRP. | | Purity | Purified by Ion Exchange chromatography. | | Immunogen | Human holo-transferrin purified from serum, shown to be homogeneous by SDS-PAGE. | | Specificity | Recognizes transferrin. Single precipitin arc when tested by IEP and 2D-IEP against human serum. Identity has been confirmed by double diffusion (Ouchterlony) against human serum and an anti-human transferrin. | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
