| Wnt-5a is a 49kD glycoprotein member of the Wnt family of developmental proteins. It is considered a class 3 Wnt based on its lack of transforming activity on C57MG cells. Genetic deletion of Wnt-5a interferes with developmental proximal-distal outgrowth of limbs and other structures. Wnt-5a can activate or inhibit b-catenin signaling depending on receptor context. Mature mouse Wnt-5a is a 342aa protein that contains 24 cysteines and four potential N-linked glycosylation sites.
