| Yeast Nitrogen Base (YNB) media have been prepared according the formulae of Wickerham (1943-51) and Burkholder (1943). Their research on the nutritional requirements of yeast strains resulted in the formulation of YNB. YNB is a well defined composition of salts, vitamins, amino acids and a nitrogen source for a vigorous growth of Sacharomyces cerevisiae. | | | Catalog # | Y2036 | | Thiamine HCl is omitted from this formulation of YNB without Amino Acids to provide the researcher the possibility to grow yeast cells in the absence of thiamine or to replace this vitamin. | | Ammonium sulfate, as a source of Nitrogen, has been omitted to test the ability of yeast cells to assimilate different nitrogen sources like Potassium nitrate. | | Application | For carbon assimilation tests in the characterization and identification of yeasts. Suitable for use in S. pombe research. | | Note | The addition of a carbon source like glucose, galactose or raffinose is required. | | Appearance | White to off-white, homogeneous, free-flowing powder | | | Solubility | Colorless to pale yellow, clear, complete | | | pH | As reported | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. | | Alternate names | Wickerham formula without amino acids, ammonium sulfate, Thiamine HCl |
