| Zearalenone is a phenolic resorcyclic acid lactone and can be produced by a number of species of Fusarium known to colonize cereals. Zearalenone (6-[10-hydroxy-6-oxo-trans-1-undecenyl]-b-resorcyclic acid lactone), also known as F-2 toxin, is an estrogenic mycotoxin that is produced by Fusarium graminearum. This fungus can infect cereal grains and can elaborate large quantities of zearalenone. | | | Catalog # | Z0400-10B | | Zearalenone is a naturally occurring estrogen, recognized as causing hormonal effects in animal species such as the pig. The association between zearalenone exposure and human diseases remains speculative at present; it has been considered as a possible causative agent in outbreaks of precocious pubertal changes in young children and has been suggested to have a possible involvement in human cervical cancer. | | Solubility | Limited solubility in water (~0.002g/100ml). Slightly soluble in hexane and progressively more in benzene, acetonitrile, dichloromethane, methanol, acetone. Produceds a clear, colorless solution at 5mg/ml in methanol. | | Melting Point | 167°C | | Lambda max (MeOH) | 235, 274, 313 nm | | Applications | The resorcylic acid lactones have estrogenic activity.
