SHP/SHPTP are tyrosine phosphatases which contain SH2 domains. SHP 1/SHPTP is expressed primarily in hematopoietic cells, and binds specific phosphotyrosine residues, often in ITIM motifs. SHP 1 is a down-regulator of receptor signaling and inhibits activation of macrophages, B-cells, T-cells, and mast cells. Motheaten mice harbor a mutation in SHP 1, which leads to progressive inflammation. SHP 2 has a broader expression pattern, and appears to promote cell proliferation and differentiation. Additionally, SHP 2 regulates cell spreading and migration in a manner similar to FAK, suggesting that the two act together to dynamically remodel focal adhesions.

Recombinant protein corresponding to aa224-529 in the catalytic domain of human SHP 2 with N-Terminal GST-Tag, expressed in an E. coli expression system. GenBank Accession: NM_002834
