Activin A is a member of the TGFbeta family of proteins produced by many cell types throughout development. Activins interact with Type I and Type II serine/threonine kinases to signal to SMAD proteins to regulate a variety of functions, including cell proliferation, differentiation, wound healing, apoptosis, metabolism, etc. Activin A is a homodimer of two beta A chains and is not biologically active until the N-terminal propeptide is cleaved from each. Mouse Activin A has 100% amino acid sequence identity to human, rat, porcine, bovine and feline proteins.

Biological Activity:
Recombinant mouse Activin A has full biological activity when compared to a standard. The ED50 as determined by the the ability to induce cytotoxicity MPC-11 cells is 1-1.5ng/ml.

Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Stable for 12 months at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O, aliquot and store at -20C. It is recommended for long-term storage to add a carrier protein 0.1% HSA or BSA. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
