Amies fomulated a medium for transport of microorganisms using a balanced salt solution. Amies Medium with Charcoal is a non-nutritional, phosphate buffered type medium used to maintian the viablilty of microorganisms without a significant increase in growth.

Description:
Amies formulated a medium for transport of microorganisms using a balanced salt solution. Amies Broth with Charcoal is a non-nutritional, phosphate buffered type medium used to maintain the viability of microorganisms without a significant increase in growth. Charcoal was added to the formulation to neutralize the toxic effects of a fatty acids that are toxic to microorganisms. This medium is recommended for throat, vaginal, and wound samples.

Storage:
Store the sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium at 2 to 30.0°C. Once opened and recapped, place the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. Protect it from moisture and light. The dehydrated medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color.


Directions per Liter Suspend 18.05 grams per liter of distilled water. Boil to dissolve the medium completely. Dispense into appropriate containers (screwcap bottles or tubes), loosen caps and autoclave for 15 minutes at 121ºC (15psi). Cool in an upright position.

Storage: Store powdered media at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept at 4°C and used within a short period of time.
