Bcl6 (B-cell Lymphoma 6 Protein, B-cell Lymphoma 5 Protein, BCL-5, Protein LAZ-3, Zinc Finger and BTB Domain-containing Protein 27, Zinc Finger Protein 51, BCL-6, BCL5, LAZ3, ZBTB27, ZNF51)
Description:
The gene codes for a 79kD protein that is homologous with zinc finger-transcription factors. It contains an N-terminal POZ domain and six zinc-finger motifs. It can interact with a variety of POZ-containing proteins that function as transcription corepressors. It shares amino-terminal homology with several transcription factors including the Drosophila tramtrack and Broad-complex genes, both of which are developmental transcription regulators. It may be a proto-oncogene specifically involved in the pathogenesis of diffuse large-cell lymphoma (DLCL). It blocks cellular differentiation by repressing transcription of its target genes, and this may promote tumorigenesis. It maps to 3q27 region of human chromosome. It is expressed in germinal center T and B cells and in primary immature dendritic cells.
