Defensin beta 4 (BD-4) is a secreted cationic antimicrobial peptide and member of the beta-defensin family, highly expressed in the testis, which plays an important role in innate immunity. Studies have shown that the expression of BD-4 is up-regulated in respiratory epithelial cells, following infection by both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and that BD-4 acts in synergy with lysozyme and BD-3. Source: E.coli Applications: Suitable for use in Functional Assays. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Endotoxin: 1EU/ug Molecular Weight: 6.0kD (50 amino acid residues) Biological Activity: Determined by its ability to chemoattract human monocytes using a concentration range of 0.1-100ng/ml.
