Isolation of Candida sp.

Description:
BiGGY Agar was formulated by Nickerson. Bismuth sulfite inhibits bacterial growth without affecting the growth of Candida. Candida sp. reduce the bismuth sulfite and produce pasty brown to black colonies. C. albicans produce characteristic colonial morphologies and can be differentiated from other Candida species.

Storage:
Store the sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium at 2 to 30.0C. Once opened and recapped, place the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. Protect it from moisture and light. The dehydrated medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color.


Directions: 1. Dissolve 45grams per liter of distilled/deionized water, heating to boiling with stirring until completely solubilized.

2. Dispense into appropriate containers, loosen caps and autoclave for 15-30 minutes at 121C (15 psi). Storage:Store powdered media at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept at 4C and used within a short period of time..

Microbiological Analysis: Candida albicans (ATCC 10231)

Appearance: Light beige, homogeneous and free flowing

Solubility: gray-white and turbid to clear.

pH: 6.8 0.2
