Highly nutrituve medium, when supplemented: an isolation medium for Campylobacter sp.

These Blood Base media contain highly nutritious extracts or digests of beef. The beef products supply vitamins, carbohydrates, salts and other organic nitrogen compounds. Other peptones provide additional growth factors. Sodium chloride provides essential ions and electrolyte balance

Directions per Liter: Dissolve 42grams per liter of distilled/deionized water, heating to boiling with stirring until completely solubilized. Dispense into appropriate containers, loosen caps and autoclave for 15-30 minutes at 121C (15 psi). Prepare 5 to 10% blood agar by adding the appropriate volume of sterile defibrinated blood to melted sterile agar medium. Cool to 45-50C. Dispense into Petri dishes or tubes.

Storage and Stability: Store powdered media at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept at 4C and used within a short period of time.

Appearance: Light beige, homogeneous and free flowing

Solubility: Light amber, light haze

pH (3.95%): 7.4 0.2

Microbiological Analysis: Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922)
