Highly nutrituve medium, when supplemented: an isolation medium for Campylobacter sp.

Description:
These Blood Base media contain highly nutritious extracts or digests of beef. The beef products supply vitamins, carbohydrates, salts and other organic nitrogen compounds. Other peptones provide additional growth factors. Sodium chloride provides essential ions and electrolyte balance.

Storage:
Store the sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium at 2 to 30.0C. Once opened and recapped, place the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. Protect it from moisture and light. The dehydrated medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color.



Directions: 1. Dissolve 42grams per liter of distilled/deionized water, heating to boiling with stirring until completely solubilized.

2. Dispense into appropriate containers, loosen caps and autoclave for 15-30 minutes at 121C (15 psi). 3. Prepare 5 to 10% blood agar by adding the appropriate volume of sterile defibrinated blood to melted sterile agar medium.4. Cool to 45-50C. Dispense into Petri dishes or tubesStorage:Store powdered media at RT. Opened bottles should be capped tightly and kept in a dark, low humidity environment. Prepared media should be kept at 4C and used within a short period of time.

Microbiological Analysis: Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922)

Appearance: Light beige, homogeneous and free flowing

Solubility: Cherry-red and opaque.

pH: 7.4 0.2
