Recombinant human GDF-5 produced in E. coli is a homodimer, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing two 117aa and having a total molecular mass of 26.8kD.
To enable bacterial expression of rhGDF-5 we removed the N-terminal sequence Ala-Pro-Leu-Thr and added the Lysine.

Biological Activity:
Human GDF-5 is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50, determined by the ability to induce alkaline phosphatase activity in ATDC5 cells is 20-30ng/ml.

Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20C. Stable for 12 months at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. For long-term storage add 0.1% BSA or HSA. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
