Technical Data
CARM1 (CARM-1, Coactivator-Associated Arginine Methyltransferase 1, PRMT4, Protein Arginine N-methyltransferase 4)
Protein arginine methylation is an important posttranslational modification in eukaryotic cells, which has been implicated in RNA processing and trafficking, receptor-mediated signaling, and transcription. PRMT4 belongs to a family of proteins that catalyzes the methylation of arginine residues. The PRMT proteins are recruited by C-terminal activation domain 2 of the SRC (steroid receptor coactivator) GRIP1, whereas p300 interacts with activation domain 1 in the C terminus. CARM1 can methylate histone H3 in vitro, and a mutation in the putative S-adenosylmethionine binding domain of CARM1 substantially reduces both methyltransferase and coactivator activities suggesting that coactivator mediated methylation of proteins in the transcription machinery may contribute to transcriptional regulation.

Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunoprecipitation. Other applications not tested.

Recommended Dilution:
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot Store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
PabAffinity Purified
100ul-20CBlue IceHumanRabbit
A synthetic peptide that maps to a region between residues 450 and 500 of human Coactivator-Associated Arginine Methyltransferase 1 using the numbering given in Swiss-Prot entry Q86X55 (GeneID 10498).
Purified by immunoaffinity chromatography.
As reported
Specific for human CARM1 protein. Species Crossreactivity: Human. Other species not tested. Reactivity with mouse (and possibly X. laevis) is expected owing to conservation of sequence between these orthologs and human CARM1 at the site to which the epitope maps.
Intended for research use only. Not for use in human, therapeutic, or diagnostic applications.
