Technical Data
Catenin alpha1 (CTNNA1, Catenin (Cadherin-associated Protein), alpha 1, 102kDa, HGNC:2509, CAP102, FLJ36832, alpha 1 (102kD), alpha-E-Catenin, alpha-Catenin, alphaE-Catenin)
The catenins are polypeptides that bind to the conserved cytoplasmic tail of cadherins and are required for cadherin function. a-catenin is a 102kD protein that is associated with the cadherin indirectly through its interaction with b-catenin and g-catenin. b-Catenin and its homolog plakoglobin associate directly with the cadherin. Thus, the cell-cell adherens junction is a structure composed of the transmembrane cadherin, which is associated directly with either b-catenin or plakoglobin, which in turn assoctiates directly with a-catenin. a-Catenin then mediates the interaction between the cadherin-catenin complex and the actin cytoskeleton. a-Catenin has been characterized as a tumor suppressor, suggesting that it may have a regulatory function in regulation to its structural role.

Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunocytochemistry, Immunoprecipitation, and Western Blot. Other applications have not been tested.

Recommended Dilutions:
Western Blot: 0.5ug/ml for HRP/ECL detection. Recommended Blocking buffer: Casein/Tween 20 based blocking and blot incubation buffer.
Immunoprecipitation: 1-10ug per 10e6 vanadate treated A431 cells
Immunocytochemistry: 0.1-1ug/ml; alpha catenin may tolerate formaldehyde fixation
ELISA: 0.05ug/ml
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Positive Control:
A0001-50B: A431 Cell Lysate, untreated
